The Grove has an extensive all year round match programme and competes in both local and Essex County Leagues at various standards.

Playing in the local and Essex Leagues is an important part of the club’s tennis offering. As a club we played more than 400 matches in the last twelve months which means that most full members of the club have the opportunity to play match tennis if they wish.
Full results of the leagues are displayed on the notice board as they are received so here are just a few highlights from the last twelve months:

JUNIOR MATCH NEWS
Report given at the AGM November 2011
We have an increasingly active junior membership, with juniors taking part in matches, playing socially, helping to run events for the club such as finals days and LTA mini tournaments, a record number of barbecues!
This year we have had 17 junior teams, from U8s to U18s. That consists of: 11 in the Chelmsford & District league (which is doubles) , 3 in the Essex Junior league (which is singles and doubles), and for the 1st time this year we’ve have 3 teams in the LTA run Aegon Leagues.
The girls have done particularly well this year, winning the Essex Junior League and the Chelmsford & District U18s league.
The boys U18 A’s had a couple of 2nd places, but the B’s won their division in the Essex Jnr League and the U16 boys won their Aegon League division, adding to our certificate tally.
A big thank you to all the captains who organise and transport those teams throughout the county, especially Clare Cousins, Gary Rimmer , Michele Ponton, Alison Mills and Ollie Good who have been running teams for years.

Jonny Price is ranked nationally in the mini orange (9 & under) age group and has been doing very well in the grade 1 national tournaments.
A big thank you to everyone who has helped run the junior events this year. We’ve had the mini tennis tournaments, the Grove Open, parent & child tournament, our own junior finals day and we hosted the Pope & Smith Finals this year. Thanks especially to Clare Cousins, Joe Bailey, Anne Cotgrove, Jane Bodley, Lesley Barkley and many more people, including a huge number of our junior members who have been magnificent.
